How does a company make the Hartford Courant Connecticut Top Workplaces list five years in a row?
Some will tell you that it’s all about the wages and benefits while others put the highest value on perks like on-premise gyms, cool office spaces, and flexible scheduling.
I believe it’s the combination of all those things that add up to create a truly happy and productive work environment because it all comes down to the employees and how they feel about coming to work every day (whether that’s in person or remotely).
How do you find out if your company is truly considered one of the best places to work in Connecticut?
What Do Your Employees Think?
When the Hartford Courant starts thinking about which companies will make the top workplaces list each year, they simply ask employees.
This year, they started by gathering more than 800 nominations of companies whose employees thought they should be on this list. From there, they worked with an outside company to survey almost 25,000 individual employees at some of the participating companies.
Each survey contained around 25 statements and employees were asked to agree or disagree with each one on a scale. Statements ranged from things like, “This company operates by strong values and ethics”, to, “I have the flexibility I need to balance my work and personal life”.
The companies that rank the highest in these categories are the ones that are recognized as the best places to work in CT.
As the CEO of Clarus Commerce, I am extremely proud that our company was nominated by the people that I work with every day and that they feel this is a truly special place to work.
I do not believe this happened by accident, however, especially since this is our fifth year in a row making the cut.
Why Do People Want To Work Here?
At Clarus, we not only strive to deliver the highest quality service possible to our clients every day, we are also committed to doing this for our employees.
When you walk through the doors at Clarus, you will feel that something is different. The first thing you’ll probably notice is the open office plan which allows for open communication. You might notice people sitting together at the high tops in the Clarus Café or maybe someone working on their laptop in a beanbag chair.
We have created a very special space that encourages collaboration and support. The constant feedback that I get from the team is how helpful and respectful everyone who works here is to one another.
That’s by design.
We hire great people and we like to keep them around.
That’s why in addition to offering competitive salaries and benefits, we also have a work from home policy, flexible scheduling, lots of outside team building events, Halloween parties, and plenty of opportunities to work as a team to help the local community, just to name a few things.
The game room and outdoor fire pits aren’t bad, either. It’s not uncommon to see team members brainstorming over a game of air hockey or keeping things moving with a walking meeting on a nice day.
As we continue to build out our talented team, we’ll will continue to focus on cultivating an environment and culture where people look forward to coming to work every day.
The award itself has never been the focus. It’s simply the result of our dedication to build the best team and environment possible.
At Clarus, we believe in a supportive, collaborative environment where we work hard and play hard, too. Interested in developing your career at one of Connecticut’s top workplaces? Check out our job openings here.
